Move the ellipsis or remove it
Warning2Federal courts21st and 22nd editions
An ellipsis marking an omission at a quotation's end goes before the sentence's own closing period, not after it; an omission dropped after that period is left unmarked instead.1
- 1R. 5.3(b)(iv) When using quoted language as a full sentence. Tables: R. 5.3(b)(iii) When using quoted language as a full sentence.
- 2A warning: the form is usually wrong under the rule in note 1, and context can justify it.
