Use the surname and abbreviated title
Error2Federal courts, Illinois courts21st and 22nd editions
A parenthetical attributing an opinion to a single Justice prints the surname, a comma, then the judicial title abbreviated; whether the opinion is a seriatim one is a fact about the case rather than about the citation.1
- 1R. 10.6.1(c) Seriatim opinions. Tables: R. 9(a) Justices and judges; T11 Judges and Officials.
- 2An error: the rule in note 1 allows one form, and this is not it.
