Replace the abbreviation in the bracket
Warning2Federal courts, Illinois courts22nd edition only
A Tribal Nation’s own format may shorten its name, but the bracket behind it spells it out — “HCN Const. art. V, § 2(a), [Const. of the Ho-Chunk Nation art. V, § 2(a)]” — never with the word Nation clipped to its contraction.1
- 1R. 22.1 Tribal Nations with an Established Citation Format; B22.1 Tribal Nations with an Established Citation Format; R. 22.2.1(a) In general. Tables: T1.5 Tribal Nations.
- 2A warning: the form is usually wrong under the rule in note 1, and context can justify it.
