Warning2Federal courts, Illinois courts21st and 22nd editions
Where an agency decides at more than one internal level, the parenthetical names the body that decided, abbreviated per T6 and T11 — “(U.S.D.A. A.L.J. 2013)”, not “(U.S.D.A. Administrative Law Judge 2013)”.1
- Wrong
- (U.S.D.A. Administrative Law Judge 2013)
- Right
- (U.S.D.A. A.L.J. 2013)
- 1R. 14.3.1(a) Administrative adjudications. Tables: T11 Judges and Officials; T6 Case Names and Institutional Authors in Citations.
- 2A warning: the form is usually wrong under the rule in note 1, and context can justify it.
