Citation rules/Legislative materials/13.2 Bills and Resolutions

Add the number of the Congress

Error2Federal courts, Illinois courts21st and 22nd editions

A federal bill or resolution is cited with the number of the Congress that considered it — “H.R. 422, 106th Cong. (1999)”, not “H.R. 422 (1999)” — because bill numbers start over with each Congress.1

Wrong
H.R. 422 (1999)
Right
H.R. 422, 106th Cong. (1999)
