Use the standard court abbreviation
Warning2Federal courts, Illinois courts21st and 22nd editions
A court abbreviation keeps its settled form where it stands outside a citation: a numbered federal circuit is written one way whatever the year, and a district court is named by its district and not by the division.1
- 1R. 10.4(a) Federal courts. Tables: T1.1 Federal Judicial and Legislative Materials; T7 Court Names.
- 2A warning: the form is usually wrong under the rule in note 1, and context can justify it.
